Long Branch Block Party and Pooch Parade
The Long Branch Block Party and Pooch Parade is a family-oriented event at West End Park, the last Saturday in September. Brighton Avenue is closed for the day to vehicular traffic and it becomes a pedestrian mall.
The event features fabulous local food, crafters, children’s activities including bounce houses, firetruck rides, TOUCH THE TRUCK, pumpkin painting and Build a Scarecrow!
The highlight of the afternoon is the Pooch Parade where dogs have arrived in costume for the event. The judges have a very difficult time selecting the top 3!
Once a year, the great restaurant chefs in the Long Branch area are invited to step out of their kitchens and step up to a challenge of excellence at the Long Branch Chef Challenge. The popular competition spotlights the culinary expertise of our chefs and features bountiful tastings of their signature dishes.
A panel of food industry specialists scores the entries, on taste, presentation and originality. Chefs compete for the Judges Award and the People’s Choice Award.
Additionally, there are other food purveyors doing sampling and demonstrations. Chefs, wine vendors, dessert etc. are all there!! It is an opportunity for our area to showcase all the fabulous restaurants and food purveyors in the area!
The Kay Guadagno Memorial Scholarship Fund at Monmouth Medical Center is the major beneficiary of the Chef Challenge. In her more than 35-year tenure with Monmouth, Kay clearly was a guiding force in strengthening the medical center’s ties within the immediate and surrounding community. Her ties to the Greater Long Branch Chamber were especially tight, and the Chef’s Challenge was a much-loved event for her.
The event is limited to 300 guests and they all get to sample everything that evening. Ballots are distributed to the guests and they get to vote for their favorites.
