Long Branch, NJ – The Greater Long Branch Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce the recipients of the 2017 Louis G. Libutti Community Service Award. The award was established in 1970 in honor of Louis G. Libutti who was a former president of the Long Branch Chamber. Exemplary leadership, outstanding professional achievement, and community service are the criteria for this award. Recent recipients of the award include John F. Kiely & John M. Kiely of the Kiely Family of Companies, Patricia O’Neill owner of The Links News, Tim McLoone owner of McLoone’s Restaurants and founder of Holiday Express, Sam Nativo & Michael Bienz owners of the Mix Food Lounge and 2nd Floor Restaurant, Mary George longtime member of Long Branch Board of Education and Long Branch Public Library, Tony Perri owner of Fine Fare Supermarket, Ed Johnson, Director of the Higher Learning Center at Brookdale Community College, and Dr. Margaret “Meg” Fisher of the Children’s Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center.


This year the 84th Annual Business Awards Dinner will be held on Friday, March 2nd at the Ocean Place Resort & Spa, 1 Ocean Blvd., Long Branch, New Jersey.

Receiving the prestigious Libutti Award this year are Bill Arnold, CEO & President of Monmouth Medical Center and Ted Friedli, President of Excel Travel & Kick Cancer Overboard.

“The Greater Long Branch Chamber of Commerce is delighted to honor two great individuals for all that they do for our business community and the City of Long Branch as a whole,” said Chamber President, Aaron Levine. “Bill Arnold and Ted Friedli are great contributors to the overall success of the Long Branch area in addition to their numerous charitable accolades throughout the area.”


Prior to assuming the role of President and Chief Executive Officer of Monmouth Medical Center and The Unterberg Children’s Hospital on April 1, 2016, Bill Arnold served as Chief Operating Officer of MMC since 2006 and served Barnabas Health in several capacities since 1994. He joined Monmouth Medical Center in 1998 as Administrative Director of Operations, having served as Operations Manager with Saint Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston, and Administrative Director of Operations for Barnabas Health. At Monmouth, he was promoted to Vice President of Operations in 1999, before assuming the role of COO.

Mr. Arnold is a leader in the development of strategic partnerships and a champion in the growth and development of outpatient and emergency services.  He has overseen the growth and development of many clinical services at Monmouth Medical Center, including the ambitious expansion of the hospital’s Emergency Department; the renovation of Monmouth’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and the Operating Rooms to accommodate an expansion of minimally invasive surgery, robotic surgery and spine surgery.  He also was directly responsible for the addition of the David S. Zocchi Brain Tumor Center, one of only three brain tumor centers in New Jersey, and played a key role in the joint venture with HealthSouth that created a 60-bed freestanding rehabilitation hospital in Tinton Falls, resulting in an expansion of rehabilitation services.

Mr. Arnold received a Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration from Seton Hall University and a Bachelor of Science degree from Stetson University.  He is a member of the Board of Directors for Long Branch’s Federally Qualified Health Center, the American Red Cross Jersey Coast Chapter and Health South Rehabilitation Hospital of Tinton Falls, and he is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and has served on the Men’s Task Force for 180 Turning Lives Around. In 2016, he was honored with the Monmouth Council, Boy Scouts of America, Good Scout Award. In 2017, he was honored with the Visionary of the Year award from the American Cancer Society.


Ted Friedli grew up in Zurich, Switzerland, within walking distance to the airport. His father worked for Swissair for 40 years, giving his family the opportunity to travel often. While Ted’s love for travel started very early in life, it took a while before it became his vocation. After earning his law degree in Switzerland, Ted began his career in Chicago as a Certified Financial Planner. Realizing that a majority of people spend more time planning a vacation than their financial future, everything came full-circle and he subsequently managed two large travel agencies; learning the inner-workings of the industry. On a trip to Disney World, Ted met his lovely wife, Joanna, also a travel agent and a Jersey girl. Together they purchased a travel agency, fulfilling Ted’s dream to be a small business owner.

Excel Travel now has eight employees and is nearing their 25th anniversary in an industry that has been declared dead. Happily living the American Dream, Ted wanted to give back, finding himself inspired while watching an episode of Shark Tank. Daymond John had said, “in life as well as in your career: first you fake it, then you make it, then you master it, and then, you matter and hopefully make a difference.” After watching two of the healthiest people he knew fight cancer, Ted decided it was time to take action and make that difference in the way he knew best–travel. Kick Cancer Overboard was born and seven years later, thanks to the support of many Chamber members and volunteers, they have been able to award a whopping 261 free cruises to local families affected by cancer, those who truly deserved a break.

Ted is a long time Chamber of Commerce Board member, and also a Paul Harris Fellow with the Rotary Club. Together with his wife and daughter Jordana, a Long Branch High School Senior, Ted enjoys living in the City of Long Branch (except when he is skiing in the Alps or Rockies).


This year the Chamber has introduced a new award, the Humanitarian Award, which is based around improving the welfare and happiness of others and having the interest of mankind at heart. Our first recipients for this altruistic award will be Mary Jensen for her work with the St. Vincent DePaul Society and Steven Levine and Rena Levine Levy for their hurricane relief efforts through the Convoy of Hope.


The 2017 President’s Award will be presented to John Guire Co. on Brighton Ave.

The Invest in Long Branch Award will be presented to NJ Repertory Company West End Arts Center.
